Job Duties and Responsibilities

Works alone and with other educators/extension staff to plan and coordinate nutrition education lessons. Networks with local food assistance and social services agencies to recruit participants and arrange classes. Teaching Snap-Ed specific topic for approved curriculum to groups of adults and children.

Required Education

High School diploma or GED.

Required Experience

Two (2) years of related experience.

Classification Summary

Provide nutrition education to ICAN eligible participants.

Classification Standard Duties

Plan, prepare, shop for and travel to ICAN classes. Teach multiple series of classes to recruited groups of adults and youth, using approved nutrition curricula. Recruit and organize groups of individuals with limited income and from minority populations. Establish and maintain collaborative relationships with individuals and agencies that can assist in reaching the ICAN target audience. Collect and document required ICAN program information, including the administration of outcome evaluation. Training for ICAN nutrition educator.

Knowledge

Knowledge and acceptance of, and interest in, limited income families and minority populations. Knowledge of community resources. Knowledge of nutrition facts, recruiting techniques, teaching techniques, and food preparation techniques.

Abilities

Ability to establish and maintain a congenial working relationship with Cooperative Extension professionals, program assistants, other educators and the public. Ability to follow oral and written instructions, follow all program policies and procedures, keep records and complete reports, organize and use time efficiently, work in a self contained situation. Ability to interact patiently and effectively with children and adults on one-on-one and in group settings.

Equivalency Completion of a post-secondary degree or certificate may substitute for years of experience.
Preferred Qualifications

Fluent in Spanish is preferred.
