Position Summary

This is a 9-month appointment, tenure-track position. This position reports to the Head of the Reference and Research Services Department.The Instruction Coordinator will provide leadership and vision for the Library’s instruction program through a programmatic approach to information literacy education. The primary responsibilities will include the continual assessment, development, delivery, and evaluation of information literacy instruction. This position will train librarians in instructional pedagogy, technology, and assessment; support creative approaches to instruction that include digital literacy and other inclusive pedagogies; set shared goals, performance standards, and teaching outcomes that align with current information literacy standards (ACRL Framework for Information Literacy in Higher Education) and with institutional goals and objectives; spearhead collaboration among librarians and faculty to integrate information literacy and research skills into department curricula using multi-modal approaches; and conduct outreach to promote the Library’s instruction program to department, college, and community stakeholders.

This position will also teach library instruction sessions; develop instruction materials for face-to-face and distance education, including lesson plans, tutorials, and research guides; provide reference and research assistance to a diverse population of students, faculty, staff, and community members via individual consultation in person, on the phone, chat, or email; and investigate new trends in the areas of information literacy, pedagogy, and educational technology.

The Instruction Coordinator will also serve as a liaison to an assigned academic department; staff a service desk on a regular basis, which may include nights and weekends in a rotation; and demonstrate a commitment to ongoing professional development.

As a member of the library faculty, this position is responsible for achievement in librarianship, research and creative activity, service and extension and outreach

Required Qualifications

MLS or equivalent degree from an ALA-accredited program by date of hire. Teaching experience in an academic setting and demonstrated use of technology to meet established learning outcomes.

Preferred Qualifications (optional)

• Demonstrated knowledge of current trends in librarianship, information literacy instruction related to the ACRL Framework for Information Literacy in Higher Education, and pedagogy involving student engagement through active learning.
• Experience collaborating with faculty, staff, students, and librarians to develop programs and initiatives that address faculty and student information literacy needs.
• Experience providing quality reference and research assistance, utilizing and explaining various library resources to diverse populations.
• Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively, and adapt to change in a busy, complex, and changing environment.
• Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills, including flexibility, enthusiasm, confidentiality, attention to detail, and open-mindedness.
• Experience in assessment of library instruction effectiveness or developing learning outcomes
• Experience with course management software. developing online tutorials, learning tools, and research guides
• 1-3 years of demonstrated teaching experience
• Experience coordinating a library instruction program or experience with library introduction design
