Job Duties and Responsibilities

Specifically duties regarding proposal submission and acceptance included but are not limited to:
Draft and submit letters of inquiry
Plan and coordinate development of proposals
Provide writing consultation and review of PI proposals to meet funder selection criteria with the most competitive submission possible
Assist in writing major stewardship reports and developing other stewardship and cultivation activities for foundation and corporate donors
Track status of proposals
Assist with post-funding reporting requirements
Specific duties will be assigned by the Director of Corporate and Foundation Relations, with the Associate Director expected to develop multi-point corporate and foundation partnerships while expanding existing relationships. Targeted fundraising objectives will align with the strategic goals of New Mexico State University

Demonstrate an understanding of a foundation/corporation’s capacity for support, existing relationships with NMSU, and alignment of University and corporate/foundation priorities.

Demonstrate self-direction and be able to work both independently and in partnership with faculty/staff to compose, edit, and coordinate materials, including proposals and budgets. Work with academic, research administrative, legal, and other campus offices during the pre and post-award phases to ensure compliance with University policies. Ensure that appropriate stewardship is conducted in connection with awards and participate directly in the stewardship process as appropriate.

Required Education

Bachelor’s degree in a related field

Required Experience

Three (3) years of professional experience related to the standard duties as outlined.

Classification Summary

Under administrative direction builds and sustains mutually beneficial relationships with corporations and foundations for advancing knowledge and supporting scholarships, programs, and research at NMSU. Works with campus partners including the president and provost’s office, the dean for research, College development officers, department chairs, and faculty members. Manages a portfolio; formulates and executes strategies to maximize potential gifts.

Classification Standard Duties

Manages a portfolio of corporations and/or foundations and maintains relationships on behalf of NMSU. Management of this portfolio includes all phases of the development cycle, including identification of opportunities, cultivation of foundation/corporate prospects through interaction with program officers, interaction with NMSU faculty and staff for strategy development, solicitation via proposal submissions or verbal pitches, and stewardship via assistance with reporting requirements. Manages and evaluates the design, development, and coordination of projects. Participates in committees and task forces designed to improve the quality of service to students and co-workers. Participates in training programs and professional development workshops and conferences. . Contributes creative, dynamic and forward-looking ideas and approaches by developing new relationships and deepening existing ones. Benchmarks with other institutions and to research policies and strategies. Completes reports related to recruitment, special programs, and professional development. Conducts research as appropriate to projects or initiatives within the work unit. Assists the Director in preparing and monitoring departmental goals. Develops objectives and activities based on department goals. Prepares or coordinates preparation of financial and administrative reports; analyzes and interprets statistics, financial data, and management planning data for predicting resource needs and developing long-range plans. Conducts and assists with the development of long and short-range goals. Serves as representative of the University at state, regional and national organizations, boards, councils, and committees as assigned. Acts as liaison with the community, students, faculty, and staff in facilitating university programs. Develops, maintains, and implements department policies and procedures.

Knowledge of research methods and avenues. Knowledge of the principles and practices pertaining to the assigned department. Knowledge of budget management methods and techniques.
