Job Duties and Responsibilities

Evaluates and analyzes research data and writes in-depth reports for Development Officers, Alumni Association staff, the Chancellor of the University, and the President of the Foundation to use as an aid in fundraising efforts. Assists with portfolio development by organizing the identification, screening, and rating of potential donors to the University. Provides training and technical assistance to the users of specialized database software. Designs, modifies and writes database protocol to establish or improve databases to track and report prospect activity. Uses professional organizations and contacts, and Internet databases to identify and assess donor giving potential. Develops and completes various reports for management and/or development officers. Develops new research strategies and techniques, as new software and information resources become available. Participates in the decision making on the procurement of new resources to support prospect research activities. Assigns, coordinates, reviews, and conducts in-depth research on individuals, corporations, and foundation using a wide variety of original source material including public documents, legal records, periodicals, computer databases, professional organizations, professional contacts, and the internet. Participates in the maintenance of prospect lists and tracking systems. Serves as a resource to staff, development directors, and university administrators for information relating to the research and management prospects.

Primary Functions of the Position:
Primary Function: Portfolio/Relationship Management
Example: Direct support to gift officers, advancement leadership, and university leadership with prospect identification, prospect assignment, prospect rating, portfolio management, as well as data analysis and the preparation of performance and progress reports.

Example: Generate models and reports; conduct database analysis and individual research to identify new prospects for major gift giving and assignment to gift officer

Required Education

Bachelor’s degree in a related field.

Required Experience

Five (5) years of professional experience related to the standard duties as outlined.

Classification Summary

Coordinates activities related to the identification, research and tracking of University donor prospects. Directs, monitors and participates in research activities including data collection, evaluation and analysis.

Uses professional organizations and contacts, CD-ROM and Internet databases to identify new foundation and corporate prospects for specific University projects. Develops and completes various reports for management and/or development officers. Develops new research strategies and techniques, as new software and information resources become available. Participates in the decision making on the procurement of new resources (CD-ROMS and computer software) to support the research of new prospects. Assigns, coordinates, reviews and conducts in-depth research on individuals, corporations and foundations using a wide variety of original source material including public documents, legal records, periodicals, computer databases, professional organizations, professional contacts and the Internet. Participates in the maintenance of prospect lists and tracking system. Serves as a resource to staff, development Directors and University administrators for information relating to the research of prospects.

Knowledge

Knowledge of the principles and techniques of prospect research. Knowledge of on-line Internet searching. Knowledge of Windows based software. Knowledge of the ethics statement of the Association of Professional Researchers for Advancement (APRA).
